Taiwan Golf Club In 1919, the first golf club in Taiwan was established on the hill near the Tamsui estuary, and named "Tamsui Golf Club". Local people called it "Tamsui ball field." The location was originally the barracks of Hobe Fort. There were only six courses at the time, with more added later on.
During the World War II, the Japanese troops dug many anti-tank trenches on the field. Those trenches were paved and covered after the war. In 1979, the number of courses was expanded to twenty seven. Taiwan Golf Club was once ranked as one of the fifty most famous golf courses in the world.
